| Good pondering SimonM. But should that archer be out of pocket? Shouldn't there be a pot for that kind of thing? Wait for it.....BUT THATS FUNDING! Well...in a way...Its supporting the best archers to attend these events. Not funding for training or funding to jump when SUK says so. But still a great thought!

| most of us given the chance would find the time and or money.....outside sponsorship etc....... if we were in the position of GB selection. havin shot for Wales, coached Wales, Welsh squad member, and knowing far too much regarding selections, past and present.......GB included people have , do , will. make decisions without a committee....... this needs nipping in the bud now. otherwise, those that work for their place will be forgotten in the future....... people in the past have been refused places for being too young. yet the diving send a 14 yr old.....next it will be sorry your too old we need a younger outlook. pete |

I wish you well in your endeavors. And just remember, if the scores are high enough, the stink will be too much to ignore!

| Like I have said before..the days of the fully self funded archer draw ever nearer..London is not that far away..but the cheque books might be closed before some even get onto that yellow brick road. And what after London and no medals? The blood will flow at the halls of residence as Field, Indoor, Recurve, Compound, Junior and Adult all fight for the crumbs. It will not be a pretty sight.

| Too much politics about. Surely a squad picks itself on ability and achievement. As the Olympics is in London 2012 isn't this the time to get funding for sports not individuals. Obviously "Team GB" will be looking for many medals in 2012 so they should want the best athletes competing, the ones who have got there by showing what they can do in competition. Apart from the compound golds, ( bad luck on the ladies shooting against one another) we got a silver and a bronze in the paralympic archery a lot better than the "abel bodied" but we have done better in the past. Will the funding for 2012 be available. However, the athletics in Olympics and Paralympics has not been as good as expected. Perhaps some of the track events can be dropped and put in dark side archery where we may get some medals. ![]()

it effects our sport, our hobbies, just as much as our workplace, not sure if you can beat it... we have stories from before we joined Border of archers not being chosen due to kit choice. We have magazines being blackmailed about adverts that didnt put a product in as good a light as they hoped. This latter one was in France. No wonder getting true info is hard to get, no one dare say what is the real story as it effects their funding. |

Have we hit the nail on the head? Is it time GNAS / ArcheryGB were made to fully answer for themselves? Or does this need to go higher? Sport UK, BOC, IOC, Trading Standards? Something needs to happen before (as OB says) we run out of money and can't afford to even give a self funded team their expenses to shoot for GB! Or are we already there? Anyone know how the Paralympions were funded?

| Following the thread with interest, I always question to myself the validity of rankings used for selection where archers obtain their scores at different tournaments under different weather conditions. This to me was highlighted in the difference between the Scottish team selection and English team selection for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. For October 2009 the England selection will be based on the top 6 in each category provided they have achieved certain scores. However these can be obtained at any WRS tournament throughout the year. Scotland have actually specified compulsory tournaments at which all archers interested in shooting for Scotland must attend (with one free choice). At least the Scotland selectors will be able to actually compare scores shot on the same day under the same weather conditions and not rely on the chance element that is the British weather. While selecting the archers from the top 6 is the right way to go, I just think Scotland's extra step will ensure they do get their best archers.

| The only way it will change is by someone causing an almighty stink & telling anyone that'll listen about it. Including the british press, I think wildcards is still a good idea. It works for World superbike races. In each country they have some wildcards(OK from that countries home series). Generally they run in the top ten (circuit familiarity helps). It allows international teams to see the potential of front runners from domestic series...
