No Archery in the Commonwealth Games???

Just realised that there is no Archery competition in the 2006 Games?

With the 'big' teams - Austraila England Scotland etc having high level shooters I would have thought that the sport would have been included?

Any ideas why its not.

Was there any mention in Australia about this Marcus?

My guess would be that Archery is probably not well represented within the comonwealth countries, outside the UK and Australia, so it might be a bit (a lot) one sided. Countires like Russia, Korea, China, the USA and the European nations, who currently compete on the world archery stage would be excluded.

Not exactly sure, but I'd heard that it's one of the events set for a return in 2010, when India are hosting

Archery has hardly ever been in the Commonwealth Games, so this isn't unusual. It has appeared once or twice as an optional sport chosen by the host country. It is quite surprising in the case of Australia, though, since Australia is strong in archery, but my understanding is that the various governing bodies in Aus didn't get their act together to promote it.

India, the next host, is very keen on including archery (as well as snooker, though they've dropped their attempt to include cricket). This is currently being discussed at meetings in Melbourne, and things are looking good.
