Distance learning

Good work is being done in archery clubs around the country. Coaches, with certificates and those without, are improving the shooting of others and deserve praise. This forum is adding to that spreading of expertise and I have already spread the word to the people I coach, as I see distance learning has some great advantages. I know it has disadvantages too, but that just makes it more interesting , for me at least.
I am a little disappointed to see that very few of the people I have coached are using the forum.
Do others who use the forum, know personally, any other forum members?
There are 700 I believe as of today.
How many know each other? If it's a small percentage, are there reasons why? With so much on offer I would have thought people would be queuing to join. If this had been available when I started shooting I'd have made full use of it,and some....

Thanks for listening
Geoff

I know about 20 people on here. I reckon 700 members in the first year is good going. I wonder how many will be on here next year..?I also wonder how many archer there actually are in this country, let alone the rst of the world? How big is the target audience?

I prefer to think of the forum as a 'best kept secret...' and just like the film, FightClub, the first rule of AIUK is

"You do not talk about AIUK"

Doesn't quite have the same ring as the film version though....

When you say you know 20 people, were they here first or did they join because you told them about this forum?

best kept secret

I like the best kept secret description.
I would add that the forum is most certainly worth keeping. 700 today how many tomorrow! More I suspect.
What I hoped my thread would clarify is how many members are finding it is easy to get others to join and how many like me are having not much success in the advertising business. If the others have lots of personal friends here, like RGSPHOTO, then I will feel much better, I will know then that there is a desire to join once people know about it. I will then want to know what I did doing wrong when I advertised the forum to my friends.

I think friends may be a little strong, I would not invite them to a wedding or anything They probably all hate me....

It's a case of becoming familiar with the name. If one person mentions a product/url there's not much chance of you buying/visiting it. Two people mentioning it would jog your memory and possibly a third or fourth person may tempt you into investigating it further.

There's also the direct approach - emailing a direct link to the site to every archery-type address. Something I've only done a couple of times as I don't like upsetting people with what could be considered spam.

And don't forget - there's an invite-a-friend feature in your User Control Panel

I also think people have a problem remembering URL's. To remidy that we do have a nice range of items embroidered with the name, url and logo and some very fine badges

I joined because people at my club told me about it- subsequently I've met many people at tournaments over the last year who introduce you to someone else they know on the board etc etc. I've also advertised the forum via our club email list- and there is always the sticky on this subject at

I can readily say that I have made friends that I would invite tomy wedding!!! I have also met a fair amount of people who make going to competitions much more of a social affair - especially when the cakes are flowing!!
