RE: 2012 Day at the Test

Half-page in The Times today, mainly about Lynne Evans, but accompanied by a picture of test cricketers being given a lesson. I think the coach has reached the part of the script that says "keep that elbow up a bit"!
The story's at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...627714,00.html but no picture, I'm afraid

Should we put these links in the Library for future reference?

RE: 2012 Day at the Test

There's a picture of England bowler Natthew Hoggard having a bash at archery:

The BBC's using the picture for a caption competition. Have a go!

RE: 2012 Day at the Test

When I was driving to the field this morning, they were saying, on the radio, that the french were having a parade down the champs elysee to boost their olympic bid.</p>

The#British reply was that 'we are known as a nation of avid sports fans and that#shines through. We don't need big parades and fancy shows to make our bid successful' or words to that effect.</p>

That may be all well and good, but these days it seems that all major spoting events these days are about 'spectacular' shows, look at when Liverpool won last week, red and white confetti everywhere it nearly obscured the team !!</p>

I only hope the Brit spokesman was right, cos it would be brilliant to go and watch the archery, kinda make up for the lack of TV coverage.</p>

BTW does anyone know of any TV coverage, either on a regular basis or upcoming events ??? Maybe that could be a new forum (if there actually is any)</p>

RE: 2012 Day at the Test

The french have it the bag, they have to do something bad to lose it.

I heard today that there are a number of rounds to the voting. In the first round they vote for the top two, then all of the IOC members vote again for which of the top two they want. The french will win the first round and we will come second. It is down to the second round when those that voted for Russia and spain vote again for either France or England, This will iron out who gets the most votes.

If that makes sense.

As for television coverage, I am hoping with the build up to the next olympics this will improve, especially with our success last time.

I thought the coverage in the last olympics was excellent, it helped that team GB got so far.

I have scoured the satellite sports coverage for recent tournaments, but with no luck. I will keep looking

RE: 2012 Day at the Test

I'm sure I heard on the radio, yesterday, that the bookies have slashed the odds on us hosting the olympics.Gives us some hope, I guess !

I know I'm a bit late but heres my 2p'orth.

I was at the test that day, was at the field when the archery was supposed to be on, no sign of any olympic stars, just a badly organised have-a-go which started 5 minutes before the lunch interval ended.

A good opportunity wasted IMO

Dave
