| glasses and shooting Hi folks, me again lol, ive been reading the debate about wearing glasses whilst shooting, one annoying problem I have is that as I look towards the target, there is an area where the glasses (the bit between the frames over the nose)dont cover, so I have a split view, part of it is in focus, part of it is not, result is two targets nicely arranged side by side, and to say the least its annoying, one thing that works is to put a dark tape over the gap, works well, but you end up with the Jack Duckworth look, like your holding the glasses together cos theyre broke lol and your too mean to have em repaired, any one else have the problem? and how do you overcome it please.stay luicky people |

| Zanda, you might want to check out Champion glasses. They have an offset pair of archery glasses that might help with your specific issue. They are expensive, and slightly strange looking, but the quality is very high, apparently. Follow the above link the see the frames. Then click on "Filter" on the menu bar to see the different types of lenses. Otherwise, you could consider getting contacts.

| I wear contacts but now need to find some glasses as well to block wind from drying my eyes out. Problem is that I aim over the bridge of my nose so glasses are a problem.

| Have you considered rifle/shotgun safety glasses? Most of them are wrap types that have quite a wide viewing area over the nose bridge. The Oakley M-frame lense goes across the bridge, but it's not as wide as some safety glasses. A good safety glasses have interchangeable lenses, some can have prescription lenses fitted and some fit over eyeglasses. I think joelondon works with lenses. He might be able to shed some light on this issue if we ask nicely.

| I had a go without my glasses indoors last week, the result surprised me as looking via the peep the target was in focus, without my glasses. Doesn't help if you wanted something just to stop glare, but worth a try indoors. Of course it could just be that my prescription works out to be exactly the same as my peep/.075 but I somehow doubt I'm that lucky.....and anyway carrying my bow and looking through the peep just isn't safe when driving.... ![]()

| My wife had the same problem when she shot ecurve, so she bought a Knobloc shooting glass which consisted of a frame with a single lens which slides along the frame and twists and locks in the position you require. She had the lens made up with her long distance lens (she has varifocals) and shot M.B. scores and still does but now with compound. |

| hello all, as Click mentioned, i do work in the optical industry, but hey I think most of you have it covered with your experiences with trying shooting glasses etc. some of the most important issues when choosing specs for these type of activities are things like lens curvature (lens power is made up by the relationship between 2 curves convex n concave) lenses with back curves that vary too far from your natural eye curve cause the most difficulties off center. also technologies in lenses such as aspheric designs mean that the lenses off center are blended to cosmetically enhance the thickness of the lenses. the final issue that can arise is with the lens material, each lens material has an index and abbe or V value generally as you go up the index you decrease the v value which increases abberation (splitting of light) this causes fringing around colours and objects. Polycarb is a material in which although very strong and impact resistant, generally has poorer v value than standard plastics (cr39 etc). with regards to what is best etc, we are a lens manufacturer and do not get much info beyond our own products, that said brands like Oakley, Silhouette (who also make addidas sports eyewear) do invest heavily in the sports usage arena, we are more preocupied with the office and PAL (Varifocal) design, but it must be working with £2 billion in sales last year!! I would stay away from safety specs if not specifically designed for sports arena, and regarding colours for tints it varies depending on what you wish to draw out of the target you are looking at (for distance i guess the contrast of the target ahgainst the background, so yellows and oranges). if you want anymore specfic information please ask and i may be able to help or ask around.
