| Do all Clubs just by way of being curious, do all clubs run as a clique, or have I just been unlucky lol |

| My own club (Warlingham) is certainly not; it's very open and welcoming to all. Can't speak for others, but if they're cliquey, they're not going to keep new members long.

| Shouldn't be 'cliquey', but I've known clubs that are - especially if you show no interest if you show no interest in their particular form of archery (eg a traditional archer turning up at a 'compound' club, or, as I've seen it, being shunned due to showing no interest in shooting at competitions...) If you do find any club too cliquey, best to walk away and find a more friendly bunch to shoot with somewhere else!

| I've only been a member of my current club and have to say that they welcome everyone and definately not cliquey - if your club is being cliquey see if there is another one locally you could try ?

| I must have been lucky - I have shot for two clubs and neither were at all cliquey. Yes, most clubs have a core of regular shooters who often congregate together, often the competition oriented guys, or mabe just a bunch of strong personalities. I can see that a core of regulars who know each other fairly well might seem a bit intimidating to new people coming in to the club, but usually by joining in the banter the ice gets broken and it gets easier to be one of the gang. Joining the competition circuit locally can also be a great help - I must know archers from a good dozen clubs around these parts, again some quite humerous and strong personality types among them, but all the richer for it. No doubt there are one or two clubs where the active membership think they have a cushy number going and don't really want too many people coming along to spoil it, but thankfully they are rare. I have always had just one rule - always put more into a club than you take out. Join the work parties, arrive early to help setting up - it won't take long before you suddenly find you have more good friends then you know what to so with.

| cliquey or not that is the answer lol Oh well I am genuinely happy for you guys that have found a home, maybe its me, maybe not, its a hard core groupe within where choose to shoot, but hey thats life and I have to learn to live with that, but once again to those who have answered my query, the good thing is that you can always rely upon getting a straight heart felt reply Last edited by Zanda; 10-04-06 at 10:09 PM.. | I've never come across a club that doesn't say it's wonderful. From time to time many clubs go through clique phases- from 'it's always the same people who' to 'I'm only shooting if.' It comes, it goes, as personalities do also. Somentimes small clubs are better off in this situation. Also, when you start at a club, everyone seems friends with everyone else. You may have had your ear bent by someone with an axe to grind and you, and innocent newcomer, can only build up your picture based on what you have experienced so far. Give it time. Get to know people, & the way things work. Then decide. Pete | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
