Looking at my tab, the bottom edge wraps around the underside of my third finger where the callous starts, and (with fingers bent) the front edge of the tab is entirely past the end of my finger. With fingers straight, the edge of the tab comes just before the tip of my finger, so just past the callous... It sounds like you might need a slightly larger tab.
