Gnas Agm

Anybody going? I'm assuming any member can attend? As I and one of my housemates are planning to.
We did have a copy of the details as a club but its vanished!

Did anyone go along in the end? I'd be interested to know what was established, if anything. The latest report from Dennis (on the GNAS website) says that GNAS has been "moving forward with the times" over the past few years... wonder what he is referring to...?

I and the gibbon went.

As to whether anything was established, I would say very little.

There was a LOT of legal posturing, I think the most key thing discussed was whether Honoury Members should be Honoury Members or Honoury Life Members.

GNAS have a lot of very exciting plans, like implementing the FITA Beginners Award program (which was launched at the AGM) and hosting a Grand Prix in the UK.
There was also a presentation about how GNAS is working for and how we're preparing our athletes for Beijing to go, see an Olympics; then get medals at 2012. Which I got the impression was something that they didn't intend to say!

It was interesting to go tho. And will definitely be going back.

I was shocked at the demographic represented tho, there were a lot of senior officals, judges and coaches, and a few direct members but a shocking lack of the general membership. I think they said that there were 108 people there, of a membership of 28k!

However, there was a free lunch and some interesting discussions in the afternoon. Most significantly whether non British Nationals should be able to achieve British records.

Any resolution reached? This affects me directly!

I'd have liked to go but didn't really know about it. I get the general impression that they don't want general members going to these things, so they can keep them short and sweet and focussed on the things they want to discuss... if nobody else mentions anything, it must not be an issue!

Sorry Grant, it was only a discussion, not a resolution.

But the consenus of the short debate that was cut off after only 2 arguments on each side was that British Records are for British Nationals, I think.

It really wasn't discussed very well as tempers got heated rapidly, and it was right at the end of the AGM so was cut off prematurely.

So as of yet the rules stay as they are.

The reason for so many people being there was that the Coaching Development Conference was being held at the same venue. We stopped our proceedings to take part in the AGM, and do our bit...

Why shocked? Since we - the ordinary members - are not entiltled to vote, there seems remarkably little point in going, unless you have an interest in the views of the few stuffed shirts who do have a vote. And they will always vote for the status quo anyway.

As officials in our club we voted, on behalf of the club. Tho I didn't think we would be voting as I didn't realise we were eligible.
I was interested in going despite that tho, and was surprised that there weren't more people there in the same situation.

Meddler, I didn't realise that! I did wonder why there were so many coaches, and all wearing name badges to SAY they were coaches! How did your meeting go?

The meeting went quite well...

Most of the hot air in the Queens Building Lecture Theatre was generated by the heating - people were getting a bit warm.

I've set up a new topic in the Methodology and Coaching forum...
