Bow Cant

Until very recently, I have canted the bow over to the right(top)
It starts after full draw and speeds up as release is imminent. Friends say they know when the arrow will leave by watching the cant. I have never worked out what caused the cant. Any ideas?I am right handed.
Thanks.

Hand position/pressure might cause it.

(I used to cant to the left, and corrected it by applying more pressure in the direction of my thumb, so you might want to try doing the opposite..)

You shoot a compound right? If you naturally cant the bow, why not set your sight up to allow for the cant and always shoot that way?

Thanks Ben.
Yes, compound is right. What intrigues me is that in the last few weeks the cant has all but disappeared, after 14 years! I'm curious as to why it occurs;to anyone, not just me. As you say, I could sort out the sight and live with it. As it is on the mend,so to speak, I feel it is part of the technique that can be put right. I just haven't been able to detect what has made the change.
One idea running in my mind at present is the new reference point I'm using.
Previously I used side of the jaw and the tip of the nose. Now I am ignoring the nose and that means a slightly different head angle( I must have tilted it forward to reach the string) Perhaps that encouraged a stoop.

Who knows.. Maybe it has stopped because you have become aware of it.

When that competition comes up and you are concentrating hard on aiming and have forgotten all about bow cant, it might creep back without noticing.

If you havent already, pop a short side rod on the left hand side of the bow and try it. Bows tend to want to tilt to the right because of the extra weight there.

Also, try drawing and aiming with your eyes closed, then open them after a few seconds and see if your bow is tilted. See if there is some consistancy in the cant each time.

Thanks again, Ben. I am more aware of it these days as I am in Rehab for target panic. Before, the shot was away in a hurry. Now I have time to check and adjust; but there seems to be little adjustment needed these days, thankfully. I will give your suggestions a try. Cheers

Try an offset bar on the opposite side to your sight, it improves the dynamic balance of the bow and the bow and bubble will come up level on full draw, also on release the bow falls forward in a straight line.

I think that most canting problems start when the archer leans into the string! Using a beiter square sight pin helped me!!

Thanks for all the input. I now think there are several factors helping to create the cant. Perhaps there was a bit of shot anticipation in there too as it was most obvious in that last second before the release; a sort of weakening.
