"The system is:
Club takes on new member, issues temporary card, valid for six months
Club sends details to County
County sends details to Region
Region sends details to GNAS Office
GNAS Office sends "full" card (actually a sticker) to club
Club hands new sticker to member"

Seems complicated - anyone know why it's done that way?

Talk about bureaucracy - a club with a Pants Secretary.
Anyway, to be serious... It wouldn't be easier for the office, and would be slightly less than cost-effective on postage

What happened previously was just the same, only without temporary cards. So newbies would have nothing to show they were members. At least now, in theory, they do.
What we have is not that bad when it works, which is usually. We need a system that a) issues cards promptly (ie at club level, which this system does) b) allows the money involved to get to the right people efficiently (County, Region and GNAS). Payment from club direct to GNAS would probably overload the office in divvying up the apportionment for the other tiers.
Oh, and c) checks the data efficiently. Like it or not, club secretaries are often inaccurate, giving over wrong money, addresses, even club names. The county is better suited to being able to check this than the Office.
Believe you me, this has all been looked at!

And on another note I stopped shooting for a while (and my wife a few years back) - Still continued to receive 2 copies of each Archery OK. I think Readers digest would have been easier to cancel

I recall when I stopped renewing my coach certification, it took circa 3 years for the word "coach" to stop appearing on my GNAS card...

That's very interesting. I've not had a temporary card from my club and I was expecting my proper card to come direct to me. I will have to chase this tonight (assuming the rain holds off).

It's possible the club secretary's run out of temporary cards. I'm down to my last two, despite several requests to the county organisation.

[quote=Rik]You know, as far as I recall, I've never been asked for my GNAS card... Not in 20 years. I've needed the number for entry forms, but never the card itself.

QUOTE]

Do not take this for granted, I once travelled 3 hours to a shoot, and then asked for my card at registration. Luckily I had my card that day for some reason. But at this particular shoot they turned away 5 archers because they did not have their cards!

the premier event at lilleshall they asked for cards, and several fita stars / premier events entry forms say that they will ask for cards on registration.

i've been waiting for my 'proper' sticker for 8 months now, my secretary got fed up and gave me a new temp number. and in october i'll be changing club again!!
