RE: First Competition

And how long have you been shooting?

I'm curious as I'm a newbie and want to know how long I'll need to practice before I'm good enough to enter competitions.

At my club, they're regularly pushing me to go upto the next distance, but I'm happy enough at the moment to practice on the shorter distances and just work on my form and technique.

RE: First Competition

I think we've been shooting about 10-12 weeks (most days), we have learnt a lot by default and realising the finer points when joining the club and also going to Lez & Neil at Custom Archery and Leather. The club members are very supportive and have encouraged us to shoot alongside them on the 60 yard line, this was where I found I was struggling to see the target and had to swap my sight to the inside. I was on 26lb limbs which have now been exchanged for 30lb limbs so that should make a huge difference. I guess the key to it all is to go at a pace you are happy with and to set yourself realistic goals, Guy and I are very competitive and always have been at whatever we have been doing. I previously entered a martial arts competition after only 4 weeks training so whilst I will be nervous on the day, am I really looking forward to the experience.
