Do hibernating polar bears dream of tropical beeches?

When you are at full draw and aiming at the gold what sort of unwanted thoughts creap into your head while you're trying to execute a perfect shot?

What just landed on my neck ?

Am I the last one on the line.......and is my fly undone?

Did I change my sight after the last distance?

If the Russian's can put a dog in space.......why can't I put a jet pack on a cat?

Polar bears don't hibernate!

There, that solve's the first distraction.

As for unwanted thoughts. On a bad day of shooting anything and everything can creep into my head. On a good day of shooting the only thing in my head is the gold.

Well, yes and no (see http://www.polarbearsinternational.o...rnation-facts/)

But to the real question. On occasions i manage to clear my mind so fully that I have no idea what I'm doing (nothing new there - I thought I'd get that in first, Cakemeister). Really - "What on earth is this thing in my hand? Why am I pointing it there?". Not so much target panic as reality panic. Usually results in a poor shot (see above comment)

Not only don't polar bears hibernate.......I don't think there are any tropical beeches.the trees down there tend to be palms

I don't have enough zen power to keep a clear mind so I just run through a few basic checks until the release. I always keep it positive, you know the sort of thing
"Stance feeling solid, grip feels good, gap looks good, relax (my release hand) fly my pretty" usually followed by "damn". But I'm a trad archer so always optimistic - the next arrow's going to be great.

Of course you are assuming that a polar bear has a sentient mind, which hasn’t been shown. If I remember rightly only man has been found to have this.

My random thoughts include:

Who's making the tea?
Do I have the legs for a skirt?
Can I explain qualia?
Is that Roy?

Well, with if Hern is asked to guide the arrow.... there's someone else to blame when I miss!
