RE: Exercise & Fitness

I love my low Gi diet as I never feel hungry and don't get so tired in the afternoon at work like I used to

As for exercise...

Monday - Ice-skating
Thursday - Archery
Friday - Swimming

and from this Sunday I'll be going windsurfing every week (hopefully)

I easily get bored with 'normal' exercise so I have to find more fun things to do

yeah, it's great fun! I've even got my own boots now!

Next time you're near Sheffield, let me know and we'll go together

I used to ice skate a few times a week in the US, but then there are several indoor ice rinks in every town. Coming from a cold climate, ice hockey and skating are very popular.

So,#Jenny, I may have to come to Sheffield for the sole purpose of going ice skating with you, then we can shoot and have a low GI lunch

RE: Exercise & Fitness

sounds like a plan to me! although I should warn you, I not very good yet...I've only worked my way up to level 3 out of 10

We went windsurfing today and it's really hard work, much harder than I had imagined! It certainly works out your muscles especially your arms & shoulders!

Speaking of eating, I'm going on a weeks all-inclusive holiday on the 19th, anybody got any suggestions as to what I should eat and drink. My aim is for 'ALL OF IT !!!!!' LOL.
AA, I did a fortnight's all inclusive in Mexico in April. Sadly, I got a nasty dose of the old "Montezuma's Revenge" and came home almost a stone lighter!
I'd gone with the best intentions; worked out every day for the first week, swam for an hour a day, walked around the resort instead of taking the little shuttle-buses with all the Americans (sorry Click! )... And then disaster struck. Couldn't even keep water in . It was a case of "one pint in, one pint out". Not much fun but at least I didn't bring a spare tyre home!
So, if anyone needs to lose a lot of weight fast, I can recommend a trip down Mexico way .

As for whether gym work is necessary, probably not. I would say cardio is more important, but as a professional "Desk Jockey", I need exercise. And not just from a weight/health point of view. Because I've always done some sort of sport/exercise, I'm an endorphin junkey and if I don't get a regular fix I go mental!

My biggest problem now is my diet. I've had 2-3 years of high-protein/low-carb but now I'm not working out as many days, I need to cut that back a bit. I'm back down to 3 meals a day so I've been swatting up on the benefits of a low GI diet. Any tips/info from Jenny and Click would be greatly appreciated. (perhaps someone could start a diet/nutrition thread? )

RE: Exercise & Fitness

I tend to find that my job keeps me fairly fit (Mechanical / Electrical Engineer) carrying a 20kg toolbox around all day works my legs and pulling on spanners is a great way to exercise the chest, back and arm muscles, although I do seem to be getting a bit broader across the chest since I took up archery.

Still, I suppose I should sign up to the gym again soon, the middle aged spread is starting, I'm bordering on a 34" waist now and I've been a 32" since I was 16 !!! Although in my defence, I have had an underactive thyroid for 2 years !!! (and I eat a lot of takeaways, LOL)

Goldie, you should know not all Americans are lazy, gas-guzzling loonies! Some of us loonies take public transport

The diet/nutrition thread is actually a great idea, Goldie, luv. Perhaps Jenny could start us off, as I'm heading to the States tomorrow morning for 10 days (and yes, Goldie, I'll be driving! ). Otherwise, I'll get on it when I get back and get over my jet lag...

RE: Exercise & Fitness

With me, I try to get to the gym 3 times a week but in reality its more like 2 and sometimes none, work commitments etc. When I go, I use the rower to warm up then 2 reps of 15 weight assisted Pull ups and the same of dips. then 10 mins of Stair climber to keep my HR up before hitting the free weights:

Prone Flies, Lat Raises, Bicep Curles and Shoulder Presses, then round it off with 10 mins uphill running on the treadmill. I need to do more crunches etc though to give me more core stability.

Can anyone recommend a decent set of stretches to run through before shooting?
