| XC-skiing and Nordic walking are great sports to keep you fit for archery. Really works the shoulders, back and arms!!

| Despite spending most of my time in gyms I don't work out. Instead I have to keep repairing the machines that you lot keep breaking If you haven't guessed it already, I install/service and maintain gym equipment and this is enough excersice for me. Humping a 400lb treadmill up a single flight of stairs while lifting it over the bannister to get round the dog leg is more than enough excersice, especially when you do a big gym that may have 25+ treads plus crosstrainers, spinner bikes etc. So the thought of getting home and then going down the gym is just not an option, I am however gonna read more about the reversal excersices. Is it possible to get stronger by typing ??? ![]()

| I'm not doing the gym thing at the moment (for various reasons) but when I was, I was doing a once a week stint on the machines as follows: bench press - 12 reps 25Kg shoulder press - ditto seated lats - 12 reps 28Kg tricep pushdowns - 12 reps 25Kg rowing aim for 1500m in 8 minutes cycling machine 10 minutes keeping up 50 rpm On days I wasn't shooting or gyming I'd do reversals; 6 dozen morning and evening. I felt better for the exercise, but I can't tell whether the gym (as opposed to the reversals) had any effect on my shooting. |

| Do rugby, badminton and hockey count? I always wonder about the compatability of these (especially the first) with archery but they don't seem to have done much harm. Unfortunately I am currently mothering a scarily keen novice (2 weeks experience, first gold medal at the weekend) who wants gym sessions, so I can escape it no longer. Any suggestions on some good build up exercises for a new shooter? Simple-ish, non scary stuff, preferably. |
