How do you deal with Shooting in the Rain?

Hello all,

i got my first club team comp tomorrow on home turf, and that turf is gonna be very wet n windy!!

I just wanted to ask for your tips, equipment choices etc for shooting in the rain and wind. not just specifically with the bow etc, but with tents, waterproofs, any little tips (taping up arm of waterproof?) etc

just like Asda, every little helps

I think the biggest thing for shooting is being aware of the clothing you are wearing - are you free to move in it but it is secure that it will not catch in the string!! Good waterproof footwear with warm socks, a hat, gloves?? Tent, flask, cakes.....

I found myself asking the same question after SoCo.

I came to the conclusion that I need to put the following onto a shopping list.

1 Seat
2 Pop up house to keep kit dry
3 Light rain proof top and trousers.
4 Thermos filled with Hot or Cold drink
5 Cake

I forgot....a golf umbrella to take to the target, this helps to keep the scoreboard a bit drier - but only if it isn't really windy

The best thing I've found for shooting in all weather conditions is to practice in the conditions, and that includes rain, wind, even very sunny days ( if we ever have any) that way your get to know how the conditions affect you and the bow/arrows and what clothing is good to shoot in and as important whats not.

I just spent 3 hours shooting a National this morning, in wind, driving rain, and at one point we even had hailstones! It was the most thoroughly unpleasant day's shooting I think I've ever had - but the best thing to come out of it was the amount I've learned!
Sight marks have dropped by about 3 notches due to the wind, and as for beating PB's, forget it! If nothing else, you'll learn from the experience - I know I did!

I have shot 3 PB's in nasty weather - it all depends on your attitude!!! If you go with the weather and sod the world, you will not be overly worried about the weather. If you go and are caught up with the weather then you will shoot bad, a self fulfilling prophecy if you like!

I have a seat, but more than anything, I need to sort out my waterproof situation. I've got Gore-Tex waterpfoof boots, but not a jacket or trousers. Must keep an eye on the budget, though!!

You have already found a possible solution for your clothes. They even have some nice light weight jackets and if its good enough for the British Team.

I accept the fact I'm going to get wet and keep shooting. It's no fun in practice but I seem to develop an insane grin whenever it does it in competition and everyone else starts getting properly miserable...
