Yes shirt, I understand what you are saying - I have heard that before. I was meaning that people didn't aim for hitting their arm immediately on release!

I don't shoot with a bracer, BUT, I find that when i do, the string catches behind them if i make the smallest mistake because i have large forearms.
That is the only reason, the string always ends up on my arm in the same place after a shot, and after a days shooting it starts to go a bit red, but doesn't hurt.

Now i've put it down on paper, i'm going to rip my arm apart, lol

Thanks for your non insulting advice. Don't think for a minute that I thought that it was patronising or condascending.

I will be sure to pass on your vast experiance to my coach when I eventually find one.

Did I mention I was a beginner?

Cheers,

Ouch.

Bracers are like insurance policies.

You never really appreciate them until you really need them!

I've caught mine a few times. It really smarts with a compound bow!

I find I need one with my compound too, well, a length of bandage actually, just in case. It keeps my clothing out of the way too, compound bow strings really hurt

I find I can't put up with the straps on them. They really irritate me. I just accept the non painful red mark that develops.

If I get forced to wear an armguard I tend to last about 20 mins before it has to come off.

I'm slightly better with traditional longbow bracers, but I even avoid those if I can.

One of the main reasons for wearing a bracer is that under the bracer there are some pretty important blood vessels.

Whack your arm with the string and you could rupture the afore-mentioned blood vessels.

Wear a bracer, you know it makes sense....

I wear a bracer when I shoot recurve, but not compound...

Who was that who shouted "Do as I say, NOT as I do..."? Own up, now!

(Did I tell you I used to be a teacher? .... [A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...])

Phwoar, huge forearms and no bracer. Now that's what I call a real man.

Normsky, don't worry. I hit my arm so much at the beginning I looked like I'd been beaten. There are so many things to think of, that however many times people told me my arm was too straight, I still forgot. Until I hit it again. And they laughed at me...

So I've got a heavy duty bracer, although I seem to hit my arm a lot less now!

Rachel
