Holiday Insurance - I feel insulted!

Looking forward to our holiday at the end of July, I thought it was about time I sorted out the travel insurance & such like.

So, the web being such a wonderful thing.... off I go to try and get some quotes. Irrespective of lousy web-sites that can't cope with anything other than Windoze and Infernal Exposure......

So, I decide to be "referred to with joy", so to speak.

At the mention of the word "archery" all goes quiet, followed by a "I need to talk to our technical department". 2 Minutes later I'm told that the policy would cover Archery, but only under the "supervision of qualified instructors".

WHAT?????

It seems that archery is so dangerous that, no matter who we are, how often we shoot, etc, etc, unless every arrow is shot under direct supervision of a "qualified instructor", then the policy is invalid.

To say I feel insulted is putting it mildly! I can safely say that I was not "referred to with joy" in any way, shape or form.........

Has anyone else any experience, preferrably successfully, of getting appropriate travel insurance cover that includes frequent and regular participation in the sport we all know and love, without the need for someone always looking over our shoulder whilst we shoot?

you could try dogtag insurance. I havent used it, but archery is on the approved sports list. http://www.dogtag.co.uk

I’m afraid it’s the society we live in now, all the ambulance chasers and lawyers.
Its something that the insurance companies have made for them selves and expect us to pay for!!

I did make enquiries some time ago about the "Qualified instructors" When I asked who qualifies the instructor, they did not know.
I also explained that as my income is based on archery, namely teaching, & the fact I am a coach who is in the position of running a leaders/instructors course made no difference. I offered to provide a copy of my certificates, but no, they wanted the originals. With the postal service (?) we have I told them to forget it.
If you want to shoot, go ahead & do it. Just make sure your gear is covered

Never had this problem, and I've taken out travel insurance with several companies (with additional payments to protect my gear). I've asked whether their policies cover archery, and they all said "yes" without hesitation.

Whilst I would rather not give the name direct-ly.... there are clues to them in the post......

I had an Thought the best people to help with this would be the NFAS, as, surely, they'd come across this sort of thing before.

And they did far more than help! A little work from two of the committee members and the problem is solved!

It seems that, because both ourselves and our "hosts" are members of the NFAS, the use of their on-site facilities is classed as "practicing/shooting abroad within NFAS regulations", and as such we're already covered for liability by our existing NFAS insurance!

RESULT!!!!!!

(however, I can safely say that I will not be "referred to with joy" for any aspects of the holiday insurance - or for any other insurance for that matter!!!!! That's one company that will not be getting my business, staff discount or not!!! )
