I don't see any difference. A score is a score. when it's published in archery Uk or whatever you only ever see the final score, not how it was achieved. Points make prizes.

Thanks all. As usual a good cross section of opinions.

The one with most tens wins but the one with least is more consistent especially at higher handicaps. IMHO.

We have had this debate a number of times, and I would have to stay with the most 10's thing. Reason is that the goal is to shoot 10's.

Interesting way of putting it, but I would go for "the goal (in competition) is to get the higher score". The most straightforward way is to shoot more 10s. But, given the question only really applies in the case of a tie, it could be rephrased as "Is the better archer the one with more "poor" shots?" Even the rule book doesn't help (GNAS at least), where it simply refers to being decided on golds (I think - haven't got it to hand), not on MORE golds.

it the goal wasn't to shoot 10s then why is it worth the most points?
Every other ring is a penalty for not shooting 10's.

The better archer is the one with the least misses, then the east 1's. I agree with Tarkwin, tightest repeatable groups , moved into gold.

It's a good question - turn it round a bit!

Which archer will improve more?? The archer with better grouping or the archer that keeps having 'stray' arrows?

The archer with good grouping but not tight grouping will have to improve on lots of arrows. The archer that has the occasional stray arrow will only have to improve on a few arrows.

Tight groups with the occasional stray is often concentration. Groups but not tight ones is often a refinement of technique problem. Which one is easier to put right?MMmmmmm?
