On holiday but back to school.

While away on holiday, I was able to shoot at a newly formed archery club. By coincidence, the club ground is the same as the one where I played rugby at school. The evening was perfect for shooting, calm and warm (unusual on the edge of the Lake District) The surrounding fells were glorious, I knew them from old but as a teenager they hadn't had the same appeal. It was my first time back there since I left school some 40+ years ago.
But, there always seems to be a "but" doesn't there? But, all the glorious weather and scenery was overshadowed by the warmth of the welcome. It was like coming home, in more senses than one.
The new club had members ranging from six to sixty(the sixty year old being a visitor) It was obvious from the start that they were keen; everyone was there to lend a helping hand at putting out the bosses and stands. Those who wanted, shot rounds; those who didn't, shot for other reasons. It was a huge pleasure for me to be there. If they will have me, I'll be back next time I visit.
The lasting memory for me will be the fact that in over 90 minutes(sadly all the time I had) not one person had said anything depressing about their shooting. Their positive attitude was very refreshing;and everyone had one.
Thank you SVL and the other members at Cockermouth.

Geoff

I'm a member at Cockermouth Company of Archers but unfortunately wasn't able to shoot at the time of your visit.

Thank you for your kind words. Cockermouth is a really good club. It shows how an archery club can be (but sadly many are not).

Sorry we didn't get to meet. Perhaps next time.
As Sandra says above you (or any AIUK archers) would be more than welcome - can't guarantee the weather will be as good though!

Cheers

Martyn

Thanks, Martyn.
Next time hopefully. Perhaps the weather will be even better then??!!
A positive attitude and a will to enjoy! What a combination!
