| Three peaks challenge - please help My wife and I are participating in the three peaks challenge to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. This is a fairly epic task and involves climbing up to the top of the highest points in England (Scafell - 978m), Scotland (Ben Nevis - 1344m) and Wales (Snowdon - 1085m), all within 24 hours. I am going to be a driver, taking the climbers from one place to another in the middle of the night and throughout the next day, organising meals and dry clothes, and taking home the exhausted crew at the end. There will be a team of seven climbers undertaking the challenge. The target total for the fundraising is £5000 between eight people. If you'd like to help support us monitarily, and donate to a worthy cause, please dig deep and click here. Alternately, we will gladly accept support in the form of items that can be raffled/auctioned off, food/equipment to help with the climb, or services driving from one peak to another (petrol paid)! PM me if you would be interested in any of these. Thanks for your support! |

| Best of luck with this, Grant! I have a friend who did Three Peaks and he thought it was amazing. Yes, it's a challenge, but it's worth it.

| When are you doing this Grant ? Scafell is in my neighbourhood and if I am around I would be willing to bring you all a nice hot meal, flask refills etc if that would be any help. Sandra

| We will be doing it over the long weekend at the end of August. Probably drive up on the 26th, camp overnight, start climbing at 5pm on the 27th, drive overnight, climbing again early the next morning, drive some more, do the last climb and hopefully finish in around 23.5 hours. Thanks Leigh! You're a star! |

| When YUAS did it, they were on the way up the Ben at 9am, onto Scafell at 1700ish, then at the summit of Snowden just before sunrise. From where we started up Ben Nevis, there was a youth hostel which provides comfortable. Failing that, there's enough backpackers in Fort William to be able to find somewhere comfortable to sleep for the night. Coming back I can't really help you as we had the Officers Mess, RAF Valley to house us...

| One of my friends took part, as the driver, a few years back. The attempt failed, because the car rolled over en route between ascents. The driving element gets overlooked as part of the challenge. You're a vital part of the team Grant! ![]() P.S. You might want to borrow a GPS system with an up to date speed camera database, for advance warning of the accident blackspots you'll be passing through.

| We did it in 22hrs - thus getting our goal of all three in less than 24hrs. The driving is where it's won - a no fear attitude is a must (As soon as we got on the M74 I wasn't doing less than 90mph until we got to the Lakes).

| I have also done this challange before. As for driving like a loon.... check with the organisers as our leg times were capped so you can only get there so fast to prevent racing on the roads which could lead to accidents. As the driver - pack bananas and suggary goods (boiled sweets, sweet coffee/tea etc) also encourage them to bring towels, several pairs of socks and a pair of track suit bottoms to change into for comfy car rides as if wet your muscles cramp up very quickly as you drive accross the country. I am sure they already know this but...Nevis is a straight forward climb, pace well and its simple enough. Snowden was our last climb and again its a slog but has an even gradient for most of it. Scafell though is a b**ch! Large boulders and uneven terrain for nearly all of it! Dont let the gentle start by the stream fool you!! When you hit the "pike" at the top their legs will be hurting!! We did it in winter and in the snow so all three were a little tougher than we expected...the view from the top of Nevis in about a foot of snow was incredible - the pictures look like we are in the artic or something due to almost a white-out! Best of luck to you and your team! Its a fantastic event! |
