i too have those frustrating days...makes me sometimes want to go back to golf!!....but seriously...i take a break..(2-4days)...am usually raring to go after that(i have a backyard 30m range so taking a long break is not easy....)...i am mostly into olympic recurve but will occasionally shoot my hunting recurves and longbows for variety..especially if i am having problems with my olympic recurves!...my point i guess is i love this sport and will try anything to ward off the frustration...have you thought of trying recurves or longbows???....i have 2 compound bows in reserve just in case...haven't touched them yet but you never know......

Thanks for all the replies

I have taken lots of your ideas on board, and I'll be giving them a go. Watch out for updates and possibly a bit of asterisked swearing

Thanks again guys. Enjoy your weekend, and good luck at any shoots

xx

I've had days when I've been out on the practice range or at a tournament all day, come home and decided to give archery up completely. My shooting has gone terribly for that day and I have no idea why.
2-3 days later (and usually after I come to my senses), I get the bug again and want to work out why it went wrong a few days earlier.
You may need to examine what drives you and why you do archery in the first place. If the reason in unexplainable, you're in the same boat as most of us. (I do archery because I love it but can't for the life of me explain why I love it!)

Me too... although I try from time to time.

I shot my first competition for 15 years about a year ago this weekend. I was just there to enjoy myself with no preconceived ideas of what was going to happen, and enjoyed mysef thoroughly. Nice day, halfway decent weather, good target companions, and at the end of it, a score I was not ashamed of - and all for 3 hours of practice the week before!

I put it down to archery being a personal sport - nobody to blame but yourself, and no team to hinder your progress (I hated team sports at school). Archery gave me confidence, it gave me pleasure (still does), and it gave me some of my worst ever downers... but we all bounce back, otherwise why would we go on and on at it? I have met many wonderful people as a result of archery.

Moods go in cycles.. some days high, some days low, but mostly average.

Things will / do get better.
