Membership Fees

At our AGM last night we discussed the possibility of a reduction in fees for couples or families. We decided to leave things as they are at the moment but it has been left to me to find out whether other clubs did anything like this with membership fees. Would be grateful if I could have some feedback on this one please. also if any other clubs give reduced fees for other reasons, i.e. senior citizen, etc. Look forward to your comments.

Also if anyone knows of any insurance companies that are willing to insure club equipment could you also pass that on to me.

Cheers Julie

RE: Membership Fees

My club has interesting membership fees. Its a University club, uses university equipment, land and buildings.

It costs 70 pounds plus 1 pound a session to shoot at my club for a year. Note this does not include GNAS.

A member of the public can join my club for only 50 pounds a year. Also not including gnas.

This policy was enforced by the university sports officer.

Does anyone else think he is a bit stupid?

RE: Membership Fees

We have a reduction of £10 for couples on membership fees. There is a no full family within our membership - usually dad or mum but not both, with son and/or daughter - those under 18 only pay 25% of the full club fee. If dad or mum are non shooting members they pay a £5 social membership fee. We've then got two Intermediate groups, one for those over 18 but still in full time education the other is for those who are eligible to claim a state retirement pension. They pay 75% of the full fee.

Norwich Union gave the club a good quote for insuring our equipment - saving of over £100 from Sun Alliance.

RE: Membership Fees

Hi Doc, if its not too rude a question how much are your clubs fees. Ours are £85 for seniors and £45 for juniors which includes gnas. By the way one of our longbowmen is coming over to your club on Saturday, his names Ken Ward, don't know if you know him he makes longbows and arrows. Say hi if you see him.

Thanks for the info about insurance, we were concerned about high premiums due to the equipment being in a fairly out of the way place. How does that compare with where you keep yours.

Thanks again Julie

They wanted more money. So they put up the price. This lost money because no one wanted to pay that much to do sport. They didnt see the link so put up prices even more and hit the students... Its bad business managment really. If they wanted more money they should have lowered the price and have more people participate.

RE: Membership Fees

When you say a member of the public Barry do you mean they don't have to become a member of your club. If so would they be covered by insurance to shoot. Just re read your reply to Dave, I see that you are a student at the university thus member of public not student. Ignore previous question please, I'm one of those oldies you talk about and I just had a senior moment

RE: Membership Fees

Sorry I didn't mean to go on an oldie bashing rampage. I think the few have over flavoured some of my opinions and often I don't realise when saying nothing is best The people that I tar with the oldie brush are the non progressive people who have been in archery a long time. They feel its traditional and like things to carry on as they have been. Perhaps because many younger archers do not wish for responsibility we end up with the same kind of people running the sport. Most judges I have met have grey hair, as do most comittees from most clubs. I think the only way some of us can be heard is if we get out of our chairs and seek representation. Its 2005 and yet still archery often is neatly ironed nylon trousers and tank tops/ pullovers with a pint of bitter. I would like it to be a colourful sport with competitive excitement. As removed from the green trousers as modern recurves are from longbows. Our equipment changes but our sports seems bogged down in the past. Korea can have the ancient alongside the modern, why cant we?

RE: Membership Fees

No need for apologies, I'm not a stuffy oldie and I'm a newbie to archery, only three and half years. I like to think since I have taken over as secretary of our club I have helped get over that older members thing by encouraging more competitiveness, etc. if thats the right word. We certainly have a more enthusiastic approach to our archery these days, altho we are still stuck in some of the traditions like, greens and whites but even tho I wear the colours I try to steer away from the zipped pockets and polo shirts, set a few trends, etc. Our "older" members have been a little alarmed and worried about the growth of the club but I know they realise that two years ago we were lucky to have half a dozen members shooting on a sunday morning and now we have on average 30 to 35 which I think is absolutely brilliant, it give me a buzz. Our main problem at the moment is too many new archers and not enough experienced, a subject which someone else has touched on in another thread, that is a bit of a problem but we're working on it. (By the way the hair is grey, but its disguised)

RE: Membership Fees

You could try Zurich Municipal for club insurance. I get insurance for another club with them at a much better price than I can get from any of the other insurance companies, but this includes liability insurance too. I don't know whether they do a club policy that doesn't include the liability element.
