Scoring

Hi Guys

Ive done a quick search but I cant find what Im looking for so am hoping you can help.

Could someone please point me in right direction to find information about how the scores are worked out? Am I right in thinking there is more than one way and that it depends on the round being shot?

Ive sussed out the spreadsheet re the rounds/arrows/distances etc but dont know the scoring methods. Also, can someone explain, or refer me again, what the abbreviations on the score pads mean?!

In most imperial rounds (all outdoor), we use the "Prince's reckoning"...9,7,5,3,1 for gold, red, blue, etc.

For all international rounds (FITA ones), we score 10,9,8,7,6,etc for inner gold, outer gold, inner blue, etc.

The little circle inside the inner gold is scored as an X rather than a 10. It still scores 10 but the number of Xs may be used in a tournament if two people have the same score.

Indoors there are a few exceptions, but most rounds score 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1.

It is different indoors for compound archers, but since you shoot recurve, I'll not complicate things.

Thanks for explaining that Geoff. I did read about the 10,9,8,7.... and the 9,7,5... and thats what was confusing me. So, thats what the X means, I just thought X meant gold, not inner gold, thats for pointing that out!

when scoring
you score 6 arrows scoring highest to lowest recording misses as "m" then total them in their total box then the next 6 and do the same then these 2 totals are added together also recording number of hits, inner golds and total golds then a running total

Thanks Sponge for revealing the mysteries of the scoring abbreviations! lol. Can I just ask a teeny wee question? If we shoot the arrows in 6's why are the calculations done by the dozen?

We would normally shoot 2 ends of 6, giving one dozen arrows. Most rounds are x amount of dozen arrows.

There are a few rounds that break exception to this such as the Amercian which is 2 1/2 dozen at 60, 50 and 40, so 7 1/2 dozen in total.

Thanks NoAngel. Its a pretty steep learning curve at the start for us beginners but Im loving it. Not much room in my brain for anything else at the minute though!
