Robin Hood.

I have just heard on the radio that there is a new book stating that Robin Hood was not from Nottingham but from further north in Yorkshire. Well, that argument is flawed straight from the start,...I mean....who on earth has heard of a Yorkshire man robbing from the rich and then giving ANY money away?

Well, since he is supposed to have died in Kirklees (Huddersfield), he got around for a fictional character.

Sponge.

Oh, so he is not American and born in Lynwood California, so I guess shooting two baddies with two arrows in one shot was fantasy as well. Does that also mean that Alan Rickman was not the Sheriff of Nottingham.

I think Wingate is masquerading as Alan Rickman/The Sherrif of Nottingham. Anyone else noticed the similarity or is it me????

Robin Hood isn't from Nottingham...he was just around in Sherwood Forest (which back then would have covered quite a lot of Northern England).

He's from Loxley, in Sheffield (Robin of Loxley)

Actually (and this is uncontested fact, no controversy here, or myth) Loxley was where he held his lands. As the son of the Earl of Huntington he could have held them anywhere under his father's sway. I understand he originally came to this planet near Wakefield (which explains his violent thieving ways!)

On the 17th September, the Wakefield archers and Sherwood archers have a tournament called the Speake trophy to officially decide this matter. We (wakefield) always lose though because our long bow archers between them cannot muster a score to beat their guy on his own. Compund and recurve are always evenly matched but those stick shooters let us down.

This is an annual tournament and has been contested for many years.

But to cut a long story short, yes he was born in wakefield, he just went south to rob and then brought the loot back for us to share.

Is this the origin of the old saying about not sh***ing on your own doorstep?
