how to avoid cheating without offending others

My (very small) club have normally entered a postal shoot which requires quite clearly in the rules that all archers shoot the round each month together, at the same time. As we are such a small club this is quite difficult, so in the past they have just shot it as individuals and put in their scores whenever they can, but now I have joined the club and have been asked to take over running the postal shoot and I am not willing to cheat. Some of the others seem to think I am just being awkward. Am I? I dont want to be involved in cheating, but if I refuse to enter my scores we wont have enough for a team. How can I avoid cheating without offending them or making myself look really arrogant? Any advice welcome!

I'd contact the shoot organiser, explain that it's not possible for your club to shoot the round together and ask if they will make an exception. If they won't then I'd try and find a postal league that will.

I've already found a postal league that will, and suggested we enter that instead...they still want to enter this one as well! I had thought about contacting the organiser, but if I do, I will have raised our head above the parapet, as it were. Hmmm. May try it. Thanks for the idea.

Right. I've done it. Suggested to the organiser that we shoot our rounds as individuals on the first time each month that we are at the range. I hope this is acceptable..if it isnt I have well and truly scuppered our chances of entering the league conventionally. If they find out I have contacted the organiser about this, the rest of the club will think I have betrayed them! Oh the perils of having a conscience...

Thunk is correct you must be true to yourself. If you cannot run the postal league without feeling totaly comforatable with it, step down and let somebody else do it.

They asked you to run it. If they don't like the way you do it then I say tough - it was their choice.

Do whatever you think is right.

Quite right! You got to consider that all the unscrupulous so and so's out there are scoring their own arrows and adding a few point on here and there, so you're never going to beat them anyway! At the end of the day, you enjoy yourself and sleep soundly at night.

Ah - postals.....Last year I religiously took part in the postal portsmouth and the monthly frostbite - a struggle sometimes to make a team up out of those bloody stupid enough to stand on a shooting line in the depths of winter - but we did it. Not always to the letter but apparently acceptable.( How would I know - first season!)
Then as I gradually found out how it was supposed to work, I discovered that it was all thrown away because the scores were consistent only in the fact that they were never submitted to the same criteria twice (handicaps and all),so a complete waste of my, and others, time. By the by, the guy in charge of submission doesn't shoot - even in the summer.
