Safety on the Shooting Line

Hi guys
Could you please enlighten me as to what your club rules are regarding the minimum number of archers required to safely shoot outdoors and the reasoning behind said rules.

Two adults, one to act as lookout for the other. An adult may act as lookout for a child but not vice versa.

Some of us shoot extra over the summer, but there has to be two of us. On official club nights, we must put out the boundary tape as well as the signs. (We use a golf bag and trolley to store our long metal poles, makes it easier to walk round the boundary)

All to do with safety, but I think it's also in the GNAS Rules of Shooting.

One - The person shooting.

We have a private field with 8 foot high, barbed wire topped fencing. The entrace gate must be locked when shooting.

We are on private land owned by United Utilities. Anyone on the grounds must be a club memeber or are counted as tresspassing by United Utilities. The is a bit of a club urban myth that United have given us permission to shoot trespassers.

We are fortunate at my club in that the boundary is completely fenced around, and that is overgrown with hawthorn and other trees with only one point of access so we can shoot by ourselves though, you still feel better and I would recommend you have at least two people shooting

My understanding was that you were allowed to shoot alone 'If and only if' you had complete control of the field, i.e. no one can possibly get in unless you let them in. TBH even if i had access to such a place i wouldn't feel comfortable, since if someone managed to get over the 8 foot fence etc and an accident occured, i'm pretty certain GNAS would argue you couldn't possibly have had full control of the field, as if you had, the accident wouldn't have happened! And if they won that arguement you wouldn't be covered under GNAS insurance for the incident. Probably wouldn't happen, but i personally wouldn't risk it!

the rules go on about solo shooting and say it can take place where the public dont have access, but go on and say something about access has to be considered available even if through tresspass. Doesn't that rule out nearly everywhere??
