Las Vegas

I'm looking into going to Vegas next year for the Archery festival. I wondered if there was anyone here that could give me any general information about places to stay (or avoid) and the shoot itself? This is held at the Riviera.

Do you have to join the NFAA to shoot or if they accept GNAS/NFAS membership? Divisions refer to championship and flight but I cant find any further info on their website as to what these are defined as. Can anyone clarify what this is?

Many thanks

Whisky,

I will be in Lost Wages in 2 weeks time. Daughter has decided to get married there, and NO, not Elvis thank Ch..st.

Advice given to us was if wanting to stay on "The Strip" then go for the older hotels/complexes as they are much cheaper. Accommodation is cheaper still off "The Strip" apparently.

The Riviera is one of the older complexes, and it may be that the convenience of staying there might outweigh cheaper accommodation when travelling is considered. I cannot imagine anything better than staying in a place full of archers, and when not shooting, watching/meeting some of the best in the world (well mostly the American world). I shot in the 2002 World Masters in Melbourne and the caravan park we were staying at had archers from at least 3 other NSW clubs. Had a great time.

James Park on AF competed Vegas this year and I am sure would only be too pleased to help you if he could. In fact, I think that there is a thread on AF about his trip. I will see if I can locate it for you.

Brian

Edit - here is the AF thread. I hope you find it interesting

The only hotel I've stayed in is Bally's - it was excellent, and on the strip (close to Paris and the Venetian) - but as others said, they're cheaper "off the strip". Room prices vary enormously, even from day to day in the same hotel, so it's worth doing some research into bookings. Taxis are pretty cheap and plentiful.

Try this for a decent summary: http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php

Stay in the riviera, its where everything is going on and this is the last year before it gets demolished and the shoot will be moved.

You can take your bow from the room and just take it down in the lift fully set up, no hassle(there isnt much space for equipment bags in the hall).

You are FITA affiliated though GNAS and have to take no futher steps although I dont think you need to be a member of anything in th US to shoot anyway, but you are insured with GNAS/FITA.

Dont shoot championship unless you are really good, and I mean 595 FITA with a compound and Maybe 585 if you are recurve(freestyle as its called over there).

If you shoot compound, you are aiming to hit the BIG TEN(recurve ten) on a standard Fita 18 Face. 3 days, 30 arrows plus practice per day and if you want to shoot the main event, compound championships you need to clean it!

I would seriously suggest shooting FLIGHTS whatever bow style you are in because you are a LOT more likely to enjoy it, not feel crap and maybe win some money(this is very random in flights and is a bit luck of the draw, shoot well on your 3rd day for the best chance at cash)

Any more questions, get in touch, this only scratches the surface.

I'm looking at shooting Vegas next year. spoke with a few people about it and generally seemed to be stay where you want, but if you stay at the Riviera it's a lot easier as you haven't got to drag yourself and your bow across town to the shoot.

Be interesting to meet up with people out there as at the moment the only person I actually know that will be shooting there is ME! That and at the moment looks like I'll be making the trip by myself too.
