Sighters

Why is it that when you shoot a round your best arrows more often than not are your sighters. Had our club competition round this morning, shooting on the same target as Shawasha where he got 3 10s, 2 9s and an 8 not quite on the edge of the nine line. This happens so often, does anyone else find this.

RE: Sighters

All too often, all too often.

Either sighters, or getting sight marks at the club on Friday nights. Come the shoot, how about 1MMMMM, 1st end at Abbeydale this morning. Really had to work to set a new PB, managed it by 4 points.

RE: Sighters

I agree

I am sure it has something to do with concentration and stress. I feel that I am a little more relaxed when shooting sighters and this seems to make me have better form. Probably as there is no scoring.

Then when I start shooting I am more tense and the form dips a little. I need to concentrate a lot more on my cheklist. Once I hold the draw a little longer and concentrate on the checklist I start to get near my sighters.

RE: Sighters

Yes we all agreed this morning that the pressure and stress factor didn't come in whilst shooting sighters but once the round starts proper, well you know what I am saying.

RE: Sighters

I have to agree - it happens so often, and especially indoors shooting Portsmouths.

The one time I broke the rule was at a comp earlier this year, when all my sighters at 80yds missed! Fortunately I started hitting the target when scoring started... I never did work that one out...

RE: Sighters

Every time!
And, every time, I find myself thinking "I can actually do this! Perhaps this is when my scores start to improve again!" and I get excited, and, blow me, off they go again.
Does anyone know a decent supplier of an alomst zen-like calm?

RE: Sighters

I think when you shoot your sighters you feel no pressure, so you are more relaxed and have a clearer mind. When the scoring starts people tense up and fill their head with "I need a 10!!" I think its a mental problem, but can be made to go away with some training.

Thats my take on it.

RE: Sighters

I agree with Barry there, it is entirely a mental problem, and with practice and training can be overcome. (Easy to say, more difficult to do.)
