Indoor Ranges - How much to build ?

This is a question to those you you who have their own purpose built indoor shooting range.
Roughly how much did it cost to build it and how did you fund it.

My Dad's a builder, so I could get him to spec one up based on size and the like.

What kind of size are you thinking?

Hmmm...I'm not sure that a building constructed of straw bales would either get planning permission or a fire certificate, Ruth. Think of the problems providing electricity for lighting!

The building itself can't cost that much; either breeze block construction or the sort of prefabricated panel construction used for modern farm buildings. The real cost is the land underneath it...

Straw bale house construction is quite popular in the US. When done right it is a great way of building.

You can get fire regs for buildings made of straw bales. I saw one on telly wooden frame straw bale infill rendered with lime plaster and wired throughout in Piro cable (fire alarm stuff)

I priced up a 27mx10m steel building recently for this. You are looking at about 15k for the building, plus about 5k to 10k for base and drains. Add another 10k to 15k upwards for electrics, lighting, arrowproofing, insulation and carpets. PM me if you want a list of companies that do these. Mirclespan Type A look good but you can get cheaper. Prices above do not include erection costs.

Brick built, look at £150 per square meter for base building alnd electrics with unfinished walls. Look at £200 to £250 per square meter for something better finished with facilites (toilets etc)

Both will need a few hundred for planning permission and connection to supplies. Brink will need a few thousand on top for Drawings and specs.

27m by 10m was the smallest that I would size for a decent indoor range if you want to shoot formal rounds. You could go down to 21mx5m and get 10 people on the line and shoot a Portsmouth (give 1m from the end wall for boss and netting and no real waiting line space.)

Sponge.

Thanks Sponge, it is usefull to know how much a range would cost to build
Our club is only a year old but I do have a long term vision of what we could do.

I was thinking of a 32m x 10m range, becuase we might as well be able to shoot a stafford round as well.
