Post Changing Times

I was talking to one of our founder club members over the weekend, he has not shot now for some 10 years but even so I have the greatest of respect for him, he was national field champion, twice

Anyhow, he was telling me how archery had changed so much in his time, he used to make his own Recurve bows, in fact a couple of our still standing club records are held by him with a bow that he made himself.

He was telling me about how they used to shoot and collect their arrows as a when, the archer on the next target could still be shooting away, but once you had finished your 6 you could just go and collect regardless of who else was still shooting on the line.

They also used to do promotional events, like shooting 2 arrows at the same time. I have one photo from our aged scrap book where another members is holding out a feather in his hand in front of a boss at 20 yards, then the other archer would shoot the feather out his hand and pin it to the target,

Can you imagine the reaction if you were to see this at a modern day club, there would be uproar I am sure. I am sure the GNAS would have a few things to say on the subject.

So, does anyone else have interesting pieces of changing times from their clubs history?

Does it say how much the 'other member' had to drink beforehand?

Not as frightening but we had world number two in our club. When Earl Hoyt saw him shooting he offered to tweak his bow for him after a competition. I think he adjusted the grip. The archer came back after many years and by then only one archer knew who he was. He asked if he could join in and shoot a few arrows. He was given some funny looks and some advice on what to do as they were shooting 80yds. He put his arrows nicely in the gold and said,"Sight marks haven't changed in ten years."
There were some even funnier looks then!
