Tennis Elbow problems

Can anybody advise - I am suffering Tennis elbow problems from Archery - have laid off shooting for a couple of months but am reticent to start shooting again to soon, as i'm concerned that this could aggravate the problem. Has anybody else gone through this problem and if so did they use any support that helped??

When you go back to archery : long warming-up, stretching of arms and soulders, and drink a LOT of water.

Mrs B.E. is suffering from this and she is now using magnets strapped to her arm/elbow when she goes to bed. They are really working, apparently, they make the blood flow faster, she uses them on her joints to good effect. I'm sure she would recommend them.

I've got a slazenger tennis elbow support. Cost a few quid off ebay. It has really, really worked for me. I don't wear it for shooting (its neoprene and quite thick) but walking the dog, carrying stuff and when it starts to be sore etc.

In desperation at a shoot when I made it sore pulling arrows wrong handed, I wound a length of masking tape (always in my box) round at the right place, and it worked (until I had to pull it off!!!!!! ) Now I always take it with me!

There are lots of threads on AIUK about this. They were a great help to me.

Yep had this problem last year.

Worked with a course a physio, rest and gradually shooting more and more. I wound my bow weight down all the way on my recurve, didn't shoot the long bow as I knew it would put more strain on it and gradually over time I've been winding my recurve back up. So far no probs!

Archers use two elbows in archery. Maybe we should be asking the poster of which elbow is giving trouble and whether or not he/she is right or left handed before passing comment or judgement.

Wink Tennis Elbow

My husband, who is also an archer, used to have tennis elbow which affected him when shooting. He has tried accupunture - which helped a great deal but never quite cured the problem. Ibuprofen for a little while - helped finally clear up what little was left after the accupunture. Nowadays he takes 1000mg once a day of Glucosamine Sulphate from Holland and Barrett (in their sale) this stops it coming back and also eases other old injuries. He did not notice the benefit for about 5 weeks after starting taking them but now swears by them.

Glucosamine Sulphate is a treatment for Osteo-Arthritis, so I would guess that is a separate problem from Tennis Elbow. It is also (apparently) still disputed as to whether it has an effect.
Which underlines what should always be the case with pain diagnosis and treatment - go to a trained expert.

I sometimes get a pain in my bow elbow when I'm shooting recurve with a straight arm due to the force being applied. I find that wearing a neoprene support sorts the issue out.

Quite a few folk who see me shoot, cast a raised eyebrow at my Beiter Rods stuffed into TFC's stuffed into a V-bar as TFC's are not in fashion (allegedly)and went out with the Ark. The thing is with all these thin arrows, lightweight arrows, lighter than air arrows, no stretch bowstrings, rock solid limbs, stiff risers, I don't get tennis elbow.
