Excel spreadsheet for records officers

as the title suggests i've created a spreadsheet designed for club records officers, i've been using it myself and think it seems to work pretty well.

i'm launching this trial (indoor) version if anyone wants to try it out and let me know what they think before I go ahead and release it properly. If you find any bugs in it or you think something is missing then please post back in this thread and i'll sort things out. In this beta version only archers 1-20 are actually plumbed in although there is space for 40.

This can also be used by a single person who wants to keep track of their handicap automatically (big boy blue knows what i'm talking about). If it works without too many bugs i'll do a streamline version for a single user.

woke up this morning and suddenly realised that i'd forgotten to re-activate a couple of formulas that work on the handicap side of things. I'd changed them while i was playing with the layout and forgot all about them

The updated version has been uploaded ready for download.

If you happen to have put some scores into the original download don't panic, i've added a button in the score entry page so you can import all recorded scores. Have also made it so that when you import the archer details it also updates the town names list so you don't have to edit each version you have.

Great idea you could go far!

I have tried the sheet and when importing a score to the archers page I get an error. What am I doing wrong.

you're doing nothing wrong, it was trying to reference a cell that was locked so couldn't act upon it..my fault.

the fixed version is now online, once downloaded you should be able to import across any archer details you had in the previous version and also copy any scores across....then you should be able to import scores into the archer pages...

Cell A1 on scores page I can not select any archer so I have to remember the ref number to put in B10.

Generally need back to main buttons on all pages (I forget how to get back and yes I know it says in the instructions) but the grey matter is being eroded by alcohol time and work!

Are you talking about the reports pages? I could put a visible link on these pages but it would show up if you printed the report. I could possibly have it so the report is exported to word for printing, then you could delete any link text before printing.

Will do, I did actually have that info in there before but I took it out for some reason. I'll add it back in when most of the bugs have been sorted and you can download a full working version.

Can you update the class and handicap for all archers without going to each one individually? It would save time with a big club.

Can I ask how you are currently keeping your records?

the only way to fix this error is to unprotect each sheet, this means you can now access the cells that contain formulas and possibly delete or change them by mistake. The version online now is unprotected, if you delete or alter a formula by mistake you will have to start over again with a new copy....

On the "scores page"

you have to select an archer by their ref number. If like me you have a goldfish brain and can't remember the ref number you have to use the lookup in cell A1. Can these two cells be linked?

On reflection with the red ticks by each archer it is not as big an effort as I first thought.

Listing the current class and handicap on the Archer master list would save having to do a separate sheet to put on the notice board, unless there is a report that does that.

I am just using it for my records at the moment but I used to be Rec Officer so I can appreciate the effort you will be saving.

i see where you're coming from with that point. I think the main reasons i have it working the way it does is to save you from manually entering scores on each archer page. I thought that entering all the scores on one page and then just clicking a button on each archer page was slightly more economical. I don't think there is an easy way to automatically import scores for each archer once their scores have been entered into the main scores page. Using the copy paste feature in VBA is quite machine resource intensive, copying say 10 scores for 30 archers each on a slow machine would make it cough and splutter.

I will add the handicaps and classifications to the main archer page when i get a chance, although this can be done by creating one of the reports.

I'll have to look into making the drop down list of archers into links, it's using a data validation table and i'm not sure if you can insert links into it. If I can then it will be done.
