| I've seen this technique in a few of the Athens vids. I seem to remember that there is a Greek lass that has a similar technique. If it aint broke don't fix it, but I would never coach or advise it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| It's fairly common on Eastern European/ex-Soviet archers. Basically, the "thumb behind the neck" technique comes in two flavours. There's the Michele Frangilli/Wietse van Alten style where the thumb hooks behind the tendons that run from your ear to your collar bone at the base of your throat - this usually involves a bit of head movement, exactly how much depends on hand dimensions, length of jaw, etc. The other sort is that of Stanislaw Zabrodsky and Yuri Leontiev (who is in the pic below, from [url=http://www.timorantanen.com]Timo Rantanen[/url) This is arguably safer in that if your thumb is resting on tendons and you creep you can hurt yourself, but it's far harder to get your thumb wrapped round your neck like this. Hence the MASSIVE head movement (it's actually referred to by many as the Ukrainian technique) - they're getting their thumb round behind their neck but the only way they can then get a sensible facial reference is to move their head all over the shop. Works bloody well for them, though!

| Correct. And our own Larry Godfrey used the same technique until last year when it was coached out of him by Peter Suk. Adam

| I think it's a great learning exercise to get as many videos as you can of other styles of target archery - there are almost as many "variations" as there are archers, but the basic concepts are pretty standard across the board.

| It's not too bad really, if you look at them once they are at full draw the fundamentals between the Ukrainian technique, the Italian and the Korean are pretty much the same.
