| After finishing our beginner’s course in December, we have now started on the GNAS Version of the FITA Beginners Award scheme at our club. I like the idea that we also have to learn about bow maintenance and how to fetch arrows as well as having to meet minimum scores. I just wondered if any other beginners have already done these awards, and what they thought of the scheme? |

| It also looks as though it gives a good structure for coaches et al to follow and gives newbies something to aim for. It can be very difficuly after a course to persuade some people there's more stuff to learn and others want to race ahead I don't understand why GNAS have taken compund out. |

| Where can I find details of this, and how hard is it to implement? I think this would be fantastic for our club, but I know who will end up doing it! Kae. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

As far as I recall, the only differences between the FITA and GNAS versions were meant to incorporate the requirements of the GNAS Rules of Shooting

| No luck Fita seem to have removed all reference to the awards even existing let alone the PDF files I looked at. Now I wonder if I wa sdreaming it all as the website looks completly different Still I think the awards are worth while for recurve archers

| Try this :- http://www.scottisharchery.org.uk/aw...nersAwards.pdf from an earlier posting on the site before GNAS came out with their version Don't see any mention of bow type, but since it mentions fingers... |

| I think because these awards are meant for Beginners, compound archery is not really relevant (here he prepares for flaming). Does anyone move trainees on to compound when they are still at the stages covered by these awards (or, indeed, start folk off on compound)? Certainly at Adel we tell our beginners about different bowstyles, and let them get their hands on compounds and longbows. But I would be unhappy about their using a compound until I was certain they had grasped everything in these awards. And this is why the FITA Beginners' guide also concentrates on recurve.

| I just want to how the GNAS can justify the mark up on the medals. I wish I could just buy them direct from FITA at US$2 (about £1) each rather than £4 from GNAS.

| I think most clubs are set up with plenty recurve bows for beginners and I know what you mean Furface. I think though that if compound is a good choice for someone at an early stage or they insist, its not beyond the wit of a coach to adapt the string hand and releasing bits etc to deal with a compounder and still award the badge if the standard is obtained. |
