January (yes, January) challenge...

It may seem a long way off (it isn't you know) but prompted by the post from CPlater1 in the junior forum, I was wondering if there might be a strong AIUK 'presence' in the senior equivalent challenge in January. Being much the same format as our own league, you would just need to post your usual score in two places, although the GNAS version would need to be by snail mail. We have, if I read the poll(s) correctly, representation in all classes - who knows, a strong enough showing and we could get a mention as a group! Now there's a thought - would it be possible for AIUK to become a virtual archery club in its own right? If so we could shoot for AIUK and thus guarantee a mention!

I'll answer your question once I've gone and looked at the competition in question!!! As a newbie I don't know about these virtual leagues!

I should think that, so long as your "home" clubs gave permission, you could enter as AIUK. I am sure the organiser would not complain, and would welcome the many thousands of extra entries that such a move would generate.

Sounds like a good idea. Like LMP I'll check it out, but at the mo, I'm all for it

Hi LMP!
Same as the AIUK league, and the postal Portsmouth run by some counties, the GNAS hold a January Challenge where any archer posts in their score for a standard Portsmouth shot in January for nothing but the glory and admiration of their fellows.
I only spotted it by chance lurking in a corner of Archery UK and thought that as its what a lot of us are doing anyway, why not?
Its nicely divided too - ladies and gents obviously, but also new archers (started 04/05), Experienced, and those that started pre 1979!

Maybe not thousands, but looking at the results of previous years it could be a substantial number. Another thought that occured to me on the 'AIUK' Archery Club angle - would it make it possible for our overseas members to enter? There doesn't appear to be a request for a GNAS number amongst the details - or would 'AIUK' have to be affiliated?

Why should AIUK be affiliated? There are no subs to pay, no equipment to have stolen/lost /whatever, no grounds that are shot on, on a regular basis, in fact no grounds at all, there is no committee (That I'm aware of) so therefore no AGM, no constitution other than the rules as laid down by the founder(s) of AIUK in which we had to accept or get out.

Just go for it, all archers overseas, UK, or Mars for that matter

Not saying it should - just that as they list 'club' as required information with your entry, would the GNAS accept entries from persons belonging to clubs (AIUK or other) that are not GNAS affiliated?

Just put in your own club details & see what happens. If not an affiliated club or member, I doubt you would get far.

I would think that the organiser might well accept entries from overseas members of AIUK, and might just put a mark on the results sheet to show they were not GNAS members (if that were the case). :
