A new way to score

We score linecutters as the higher value at the moment. What would happen if they were scored as the lower value?
For one thing, everyone would be shooting the thinnest arrows possible to avoid hitting lines.
Would we see a new generation of arrows that are even thinner than X10's?
Top scores would certainly drop and perhaps more people would be shooting on tri-spots.

I've read about it before as an idea, though I can't for the life of me remember where.

I'd quite favour a method of scoring were you gain more points on the outer rings of the target....

Perhaps thats an idea that could be used in one of the AIUK comps LOL that would certainly change the playing field and level it all off.

Wouldn't you have to start a whole new set of Records?

Interesting! It would mean the death of the 2315 arrow (for target at least).

I suspect it would affect intermediate archers the most. If you're shooting a loose 9-sized group, that would cut a lot of lines between 9 and 10 and between 8 and 9. More lines than you'd cut by shooting a tight 9-sized group with a lot of clear 10s, or a loose 10-sized group. Or spreading the arrows over the target face as lower-level archers do.

Just MHO, haven't worked out the maths.

It would help 'spread' the higher scoring archers out (and compress the lower scores) but the down side would be the thiner/smaller arrows that the compounds/high poundage recurve bows would use 'passing through' targets.

It's been mentioned repeatedly on Sagi in the past, so a quick search for it would probably turn up some articles. I believe it's used in some forms of pistol or rifle competition.

I suggested it in a thread recently as a means of introducing more "errors" and making a televised match more exciting. Only way is to try it, methinks!

That's really interesting I've never heard of it before.
I'm going to start scoring that way for the rest of the month starting friday and see what happens, you never know it might be a way to increase scores (maybe even a pb) for a short period of time when you switch back to conventional scoring. Or of course it may just screw me up but at least it won't be boring (bring on the outdoors I've got cabin fever)

Interesting, not sure how it would affect me not to the better I think, along with a need to re-start all the records tables, would you not also have to re-assess all the handicap and classification tables not just adjust the scores I mean the splits would be different surely?
