Some Advice

I'm going up to Lancs for a week on fri and wanted to take me bow with me. Problem is how do you stand shooting in public places, even if they are quite remote.
My understanding is that you cannot shoot with out the land owners permission, but how does that apply to open land where there is no owner as such.
I was thinking I could go out at say 5 in the morning with illuminous arrows

It's not acceptable as far as I'm aware!!

Why don't you look for clubs near to where you are going?? I'm sure you could arrange to go and shoot!

Any liability insurance that is part of your GNAS membership would be invaild due to shooting alone..not to mention shooting in the dark

Yeh, wot I figured. Btw I was takin the p**s about shooting in the dark.
I'll go have a butchers for a local club. Is that quite a common practice then when people go away, or do normal people leave their bows at home?

That is also the beauty of this forum - you can arrange to meet people at their club or invite them to yours

If you ever get to Oban let me know and I'll arrange a shoot with the local longbow (BLBS) club for you.

They do shoot at night...but only fire arrows I'm afraid

I always pack my bow and take it with me when I go up North to my folks, quite few clubs up there and I try to time hols up there to coincide with tournaments too....

My dad has a big garden with about 1/2 mile overshoot- his house is classic "halfway to no-where" BTW (and farmer OK about it so long as no beasts in his field) so I take a target too. If the field is occupied, he has a long passage under the house, I can get 15 yards indoors.

As for "normal" people.... how do you define "normal...?" For me, taking mybow is perfectly normal, but then again as I am a keen archer and there already part of a small minority of the UK population, do I really qualify as normal...?!!
