I'm not sure they have names. It's a bit like right angle has its own name but other angles don't. The #### feather is used to indicate that the arrow is on the string correctly. The other two aren't used for that, so don't need names.
I'm just guessing though.
If you load an arrow onto a bow with the bow horizontal, when done the right way, one fletching is "cocked " up. Perhaps that's where the name came from. In which case "hens" would not match.

IN this day of political correctness, one is not supposed to call it the c**k feather as people might get offended. I think it is something like the primary feather

And yes the other were called the hen feathers, but don't know what the new PC terminology is

I've heard "####" and "hen" feathers used and the terminology in US.

Another variation I've heard is "index" vane and "shaft" vanes.

Question for compounders is though, do you shoot #### up or #### down....

exactly...but it can cause great hilarity in the shop when it comes to choosing colours.

I was told that specifically that they weren't called hen feathers some time in the past ,and have heard someone refer to them as Hand feathers.

I don't think its a PC thing. More like a " I'd rather not have my coachees dissolve into a fit of giggles" thing.
