Fletching 4 3

I have been asked to fletch another archers arrows. Stripping off and cleaning 12 shafts and using the archers fletchings provided. Do you charge for this or do it for free. It has taken some time and a tube of glue.Opinions, not orders please!

If you have started then you cant really charge now but in future I dont think it would be entierly unfair to charge a small fee. I would not charge for anything but then Im like that.

I would feel uncomfortable asking for a payment, but would offer one were the positions reversed..

Doesn't make much sense does it?

One of those tricky areas. If you keep doing it and it takes away from your time then maybe you should consider a small fee (or at least a cuppa). However if you dont do it that often then it would seem a bit scrouge like. I prefer to teach people how to do it themsleves.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can feed his family to years.

Something like that

I've always fletched arrows for free, they provide the glue/fletchings and I dont mind putting the time in. Fletching arrows can be therapeutic after a bad day.

If I was the person getting the arrows fletched, I would offer to pay something....even if its the cost of the glue. I would probably also get a nice bottle of wine or some nice beers as a thank you.

If it was an ongoing thing, I would look to pay a fee of some sort.

The problem comes when word gets round that you are doing it. after a couple of times, you decide to charge a small fee. Folk feel as though their being cheated...."You did xxx's for free, why are you charging me???"

At work (Small garage) we often will do a little "freebie" job for a customer. If they offer to pay we feel good in ourselves to say "it's Ok we'll catch you next time". If they don't offer, they don't get any more favours.

There is always a simple answer to these sorts of questions. Everyone has something to offer. You have an ability to fletch and it costs you time and money. So you deserve payment, but sometimes you don't like to ask, so now when you return the perfectly fletched arrows you can say, here are your arrows could you possibly - then ask for a favour, something they can offer in return. Everyone has something.
