Talking local club friendly’s

As the summer is coming up and the nights are drawing out I was wondering if any clubs have local friendly’s with other clubs in their area.
What I am thinking about is do local clubs invite over another local club for a friendly round, some time mid week just for fun. Bit of a barbecue and a good chin wag, chance to meet other club members that sort of thing. Then some time later the favour is returned by the guest club.
This may already happen and I am not aware of it as a newbie, but I have just not heard anyone say anything about it.

If it’s not happening then do you think it would be a good thing or not?
If your club already does this then have you found it to be a good or not have you come up against any problems?

Yes it is a good idea. It has worked where I shoot and some of the meetings have now become an annual event, hosted each year by the clubs in rotation.
At a less structured level it works too. There is much to be learnt by all clubs who join in as fresh faces with different experiences add to the discussions/chats.

I can't answer for target archery clubs, but it is quite often the case with (NFAS) field archery clubs.

Westcott Archers had a friendly competition against Newport Pagnall Archers this last Saturday where 30 archers shot a half portsmouth and then we had a nine arrow head to head competition on portsmouth faces! Archers of all abilities took part including my boy who's been shooting less than a month,. He met the eventual winner in the first round. We all had a fantastic night with a buffet and chocolates laid out on a table for people to nibble on as the night progressed. The boy can now say he's done his first H2H at the grand age of 9 and made many friends from another club some he will meet later in the year as well at other competitions. It was cool and I didn't have to make too many judging decisions either!

sounds a VERY cool idea in principle (not ALWAYS possible to organise on a truly local level for all sorts of reasons)

having said that - any south lincs / east leics / north northants / west norfolk clubs want to try and work something out ?

This is just the sort of thing I was thinking of, great for those of us young and old who have not been shooting that long, bit of friendly fun rather than a full on competition.

What sorts of reasons? Just wondering what problems I could come up against if we try and sort somthing like this with clubs local to us?

dont worry - i was talking about very specific issues that might arise if we wanted to do something with the clubs most local to us (history / petty politics - all of which predate my time and TBH something im not that interested in)

but like i said i (and i reckon most of the active members of my club) would be WELL up for this if any clubs in those areas i mentioned (thinking maybe 45-60 minutes drive away) want to have a stab at something like this in the summer

North Cheshire bowmen have an indoor Darts comp with Chester A C. We have outdoor Albions rounds with both Wirral and Rochdale Archers. All are enjoyable. archers are friendly folk and it is good to meet up. It is also nice to see familiar faces at indoor and outdoor comps.

and what a great time we had, though I must say that the lunar eclipse was a bit ott!!

I hope we can do more of this in the future, indoors and out. Westcott laid on a fantastically well organised shoot, which due to the preparation went off without a hitch - you made it look easy, I hope we can do the same when you come back for a return visit.

a timely post as we putting such arrangements in place with a few local clubs. Really looking forwards to the outdoor season, but getting everyone to agree on a format can be tricky
