| 33 years of past bows ? 1974, self made re-curve, aluminum riser, re-curve limbs, 24 lb, Action core and glass laminates to make limbs by Bjorn archery, via marksmans shop in Cuckney 1975, as above but 35 lb limbs. 1976, four wheel compound, made in workshops at school, limbs, wheels and riser self made, cable adjusters and nylon covered cables from ships chandler. If you doubt the above, ask Ben Jones to ask his dad about it, the experiments in making compounds provided lots of information to Chris. Have to point out, I was taking A level metalwork and had massive workshops at my disposal, from aluminum casting to milling machines. And of course as a student, I could not afford the huge cost of early compounds. My Archery tutor, was a teacher at the school. He knew about bows, I knew about engineering, so we pooled our knowledge. He incidentally was IFAA European champion 7 times, word champion once between 1974 and 1984, shooting home made re-curves, then home made compounds, before shooting Jennings as a Merlin supported archer. 1977 Early model of original Merlin four wheel compound. 1978 Jennings arrowstar II, 50lb@29" 30% let off, four wheeler, when Merlin was a Jennings distributor. 1979, converted Jennings to a 2 wheel system, made system up to 50% let off. 1982, to 1993, lay off due to family commitments, derelict 1860 cottage, total rebuild from shell taking nearly 10 years to complete and extend, then children came along, but old Jennings in shed. Came out to play a few times a year. Redeeming feature of cottage is 60 yds of garden, with open countryside for 4 miles behind to next village. The air rifle and archery range possibilities played absolutely no part in my decision to buy, honest, 1994, Browning ST6 CNC compound. 2006, Merlin vision 2000, new sights, new shafts, Kids interested in taking up archery, so their mums disapproval of sport overruled by majority, not all wives are OK with being archery widows sadly. Kids going for proper lessons with coach this weekend, I'm raring to go. Sadly my old club no longer exists, so have been looking for another. Having spoken to the clubs founder, internal politics discouraged new members and membership dwindled to the point of being unable to afford renting woods for a course.
