SUBIC BAY FREEPORT -- There were no drums beating from the gallery meant to shake her rival off. Jasmine Figueroa simply succumbed to pressure.
Tournament favorite Rina Dewi Puspita Sari of Indonesia booted out Figueroa to advance into the semifinal round of the women's individual recurve yesterday in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games archery competitions at the Remy Field here.
Sari, the 2003 Vietnam games gold medalist, survived a six-point deficit with three arrows left in the 12-arrow, 70-meter event to post a 96-95 squeaker over the country's top woman archer.
Figueroa also yielded to Sari in the elimination round of the same event two years ago.
Despite Figueroa's early exit, the other Filipino archers remained in contention for the overall title after Rachelle Ann Cabral (women's recurve), Amaya Paz (women's compound), Jennifer Chan (women's compound) and Marvin Cordero (men's compound) advanced to the next phase.
Cabral toppled Anabarasi Subraimaniam
of Indonesia, 104-99, Paz edged Indonesian Lilies Heliarti, 99-98, Chan subdued Narisara Timbua (Thailand), 108-105, and Cordero dethroned defending titlist Muhammad Marbawi Sulaiman of Malaysia, 197-105.

Just goes to show that some countries take their archery seriously enough to give it a mention in their newspapers. Anyone know the last time a UK daily ran an archery report?
