when does GNAS membership year start?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but which month does GNAS membership start in? I am also aware that if one joins a bit early the first month or so is free...which months exactly?

The reason for asking is that we have two juniors wanting to go to a novice shoot in May, but they are not in GNAS (we are not an affiliated club). Our membership secretary thinks we should wait for the free period before getting them joined up, which seems sensible, but I am worried about the competition filling up before they can enter it.

September, new archers are issued with a temp until the new season when you are issued with a proper one,
i think you then start paying fee's as normal from the following year onwards.

So if they joined from the start of May it would not cost them any more than if they waited for September? Or could they do it now? Four free months sounds a bit over generous to me.

As long as they had not been GNAS members previously, then if they join from May 1 07, they don't have to renew until September 08. It's a good deal for new people.

We've not long finished a beginners course, a dad/son joined immediately as they were keen to shoot and he didn't mind paying again this September, but some of the others are waiting for 1st May.

We had a previous member take a break, then rejoin and was quite disappointed to learn they didn't get the extra time free!
