How to tell if you grip the bow

I thought I had better get this in before anyone shooting with me Sundays does it.

In order to see if you grab the bow on release forget to use the wrist strap on your first arrow of sighters. If you are really lucky when the bow lands you long rod snaps off. The arrow still went in the red at 100yds which is more than I can say for the rest I shot during the day.

Thanks to Cuddles for sorting out a spare long rod for me.

Clive

Ooh, now any lesser being may have gotten away with this, as did I when I was fresh from my beginners course and would quite happily sling my bow up the range. Of course we'll not talk about the time I received my new G3s and Matrix and with the very first shot sent it hurtling over some concrete paving.... Anyway, back to the Fonz in hand... Welcome to the club

I've had a fingersling break before - the knot slipped out of it, bow went forward and was caught in such a fashion that could have justified a place on the british team.

And again a few weeks back where it slipped off my thumb, and landed on the bottom limb and the longrod at the same time - no torque at all, was able to grab it by the top limb before it even thought about overbalancing...

How about when you grip the plastic grip and the bow moves forward leaving the grip in your grasp.

Does this count as gripping the bow?

Sorry about your longrod!

Dave Kronengold told me once he set up a bow for his Dad to have a go at archery with, including a tapered carbon longrod. First shot at a competition, and Dad had forgotten his bow sling. Bow punched forward, landed on the tip of the longrod which bent and then sprung back. Dad caught the bow by the grip as it came back at him and he walked off the line to get his bow sling.

So those tapered longrods weren't so bad after all

Now that would be a fantastic follow through routine!

Wouldn't it?

"Dad, the bow is regularly bouncing back and hitting the guy next to you. Firstly, I think you're torquing the bow. Secondly, I think he's going to kill you."
