The shout box just reminded me of a day I will never forget - I cant believe I hadnt put it forward for a fonz award!!
So here it is - my day from hell.
I arrived at the field a few hours before our weekly shoot to do some practice with my recurve - hey, I need all the practice I can get!
Its a blustery day but still shootable.
I set up my bow and my bowstand and placed the scope on the tripod as usual.
Moved one of the mobile bosses out to the desired distance, in this case 80yrds.
Came back to the line and got out my notebook with my sightmarks in it.
WHOOSH
The wind suddenly picks up and then drops away again.
CRASH
My scope is now lying on the floor - I rush over to check it - all ok - phew!
I put it back up and using some twigs peg it to the ground.
I go back for my notebook.....
WHOOSH
The wind opens the notepad and like some ghost story rifles through the pages then the book falls apart and all my notes and sightmarks dance merrily across the field before jumping into the river at the side of our field.
Damn.
Oh well - I still have some pages left in the book so I will just mark down todays sightmarks and use them for now.
-----
I shoot a few dozen and I have got my groups nice and tight (for me ) at 80yrds.
On my 5th arrow of the set - I come up to full draw and I am aiming.
Then everything goes into slo-mo....
I cant seem to stay on gold, something is wrong....
I come down from full draw confused as I see the boss sway.....
then start to topple....
NOOOOOO!!!!
CRASH
The boss is now
FACE DOWN on the ground!
I struggle but right the boss.
One of my Navs is snapped in two
Two of them are bent at about 30o
and after searching I find just a point on the ground - I pull the entire arrow out of the ground and its still straight.
So by the time the club arrives for the shoot - I have dropped my scope, lost all might sight marks and now broken three of my Carbons before the shoot even starts.
Not a good day.
I shoot badly for the shoot.
Not a good day.
Then when packing up my bow stand goes *ping* and two tiny screws and two tiny springs disappear - my stand then promptly falls apart.
I pack up and go home - thoroughly miffed
I have shot my longbow since.
