unspectacular but fonzish

not long got my 2nd class so thinking about moving up to 80yds to practice towards 1st

with my current setup and sight fully extended my 60yd sightmark was 57 and linecutters estimator suggested 83 for 80yds so last sunday set my bow up and adjusted sight to 83

missed all 6 - nowhere near - assumed estimate was out so pulled sight in a notch

missed all 6

repeat until sight ALL the way in and all the way down and arrows JUST hitting the centre of the boss (all this from knowing my kit - 40lb on fingers from merlin elite limbs - should reach 80 with comfort)

feeling really down about aiming for 1st class with this setup

spend an evening in C & Q discussing sight geometry and face shape and all sorts trying to work out why 60 was so easy and 80 so hard - no conclusive answer though

left bow strung this week intending to replace brass nocking point with tied ones to wring every last ounce of speed from the bow

didnt get round to that and went to club tonight to practice - got there and thought id check the basics - brace height etc - brace height was 10mm lower than usual so spent a few minutes checking (fully shot in) string for breaks / wear / etc - but nothing showed up

thought what the hell - must be one of those things and put some twists in- brace height now back to roughly where it was

looked at the bow and thought it looked a bit odd just as another archer (nick forster) says 'your limbs are in upside down'

DOH !

explains odd performance at 80yds previous sunday !

take bow down - swap limbs over - restring bow

shoot - bow feels and sounds 'different' - not bad just not right but shoots OK so dont worry too much

finish end and catch a glimpse of bow - bottom limb looks half drawn and top limb looks almost flat - check tiller - its 30mm different !

after some minutes of panic spot that when i put the top limb back in the limb locator bolt missed the slot and is instead sitting on top of it throwing the top limb about 10mm further forward of where it should be

DOH !

what a complete numpty !

take down - restring again - of course now (thanks to earlier twisting of string) need to spend 10 minutes taking twists out of string to get somewhere back to proper brace height

get everything back to where it should be

shoot a short round

score crap

wonder if it was ACTUALLY worth all the hassle

slainte rob

LOL... I can imagine the deep and meaningful C&Q convo now...

I fear it's more Ralph Malph than Fonz though
