How did I do that...

Second day of the Scottish Field Archery Championship and 2nd peg of a 58 yard walk up. One arrow safely in the X. Set the sight for the second distance, focus on the spot, draw, a perfect release and one helluva bang.

I forgot the arrow. D'oh

The bus cable snapped at the cam, so it was the end of my competition and now I need a new cable very quickly to try to get the bow setup in time for the double fita at Banchory next week.

Stupid, stupid boy...

Now that's what I call focus on the shot... Next time perhaps a bit more focus on the preparation? Hope the bow's ok...

It was definately another X

I was unlucky though with a cable snapping. I've been advised to replace the string and both cables. I've no idea how quicly I can get that done. Quicks are saying 6 weeks. So I may be a spectator at Banchory

Check out the cams/axles too - make sure nothing's twisted out of alignment... Stu will keep you right. Good luck on getting it fixed for next weekend. I've got a spare recurve you could shoot

Mike,

Try Jim Druce at Strings & Things - tel:- 02392 468614/07746 046499, email:- stringopen@yahoo.co.uk. He advertises in Archry UK, Spring 2007, p. 26. He was at Skye and seemed to spend all his spare time making strings. They looked quite good so it's worth a call.

BillM

If this is the same Jim Druce who was recently on the Berks L2 pilot course with me, I can vouch for his strings. Very tidy work.

Before laughing at you mate, lets announce, "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone" !!!!!!!!!!! Or should that be "let he who is without string". Come on guys and gals, who hasn't done it!!!

Have you contacted Stu369 of SDM strings. You could ring him at work at Merlin. I know he does flipping good strings, and might know what you need, and be able to get you one quick. I have to say though, I'm a bit surprised it takes so long to get a set of cables and string for a bow.

I don't know. I would have thought that Hoyt would be able to have stock of each of the sizes. I know many people would still want custom made strings, but it seems odd that there are no 'off-the-peg' strings from the bow manufacturer. Something that Mathews seems to have sorted out. Even Winners Choice do not seem to have ready made cables for Hoyt (they do have strings).

I've found someone who can make me a replacement for the broken cable tonight. I know the string is OK, but I need to get the other cable off the bow and inspect it very carefully along with the cam that is still attached to a cable. Hopefully I can get the bow back together tomorrow or Wednesday and get it set up so I can shoot this weekend. I'm then away for a 10 days on a business trip and a full replacement set will arrive while I'm away so I can get them fitted when I get back, or at least after the competition I go to on Saturday after arriving back from Canada on Friday... There may be more opportunities to qualify for a Fonz award int eh next few weeks
