Have A Go

Just got back from a short week in snowdonia and surprisingly it was not too wet

While there we went to Greenwoods country Park recommended day out if you have a family, one of the attractions is a free Longbow have a go only 3 arrows but you can go back as often as you want, if you have little ones they get a Jelly bow, as I had queued up with the kids I thought I would have a Go myself. They had a couple of different poundage longbows and a jelly bow on a rack by the shooting line, I walked up stood over the line the Guy asked me if I had shot a bow before and not wanting to sound smug I said compound but never longbow and left it at that, he handed me the biggest bow quickly put a bracer on me picked up an arrow and nocked it for me, I took the string and drew back to anchor, lined up the tip of the arrow with the gold and held what happened now actually shows good form but is rather embarrassing given that there was a queue of Kids and parents stood watching.

When I released the bow shot forward out of my hand and if that was not bad enough it struck the rack of other bows sending them tumbling to the ground . Slightly flushed I picked the bow up mumbled something about not having a bow sling on (The guys instructing did not look like they knew what one of those was) Gripping the bow tightly the next shot was luckily uneventful and the last was a gold , I left with the kids never once looking back at the queue of people.

Sort of thing I would do, but glad it wasn't.

You can bet it will be a day the kids will remember.

Just back from holiday and did the same thing. Our hotel offered an archery have a go. First up my hubby, looks very professional, draws back lets go arrow in the gold and the bow follows it. Next two arrows are unevenful. Next up my son. told him "remember grip the bow". First shot, bow ends up half way down the range. (Very short range about 5m). Next me, after laughing at the first two. Take a death grip on the bow, I won't let go. Draw back, let go and send the bow down the range again. Next arrow, I manage to catch the bow string as the bow flies forward.

We were too embarassed to go back again for the next have a go.
