| Oh, how much is this deserving of a major Fonzie award, if the archer were a participant of this forum. But, alas, he is not. Scenario. Sitting with another archer talking over club executive stuff when an almighty BANG is heard from the shooting line. Son of other archer, on shooting line, is seen to be bewildered and rubbing his neck. Rush to see that everything is OK. Dad: “What happened” Son: “I dunno. Something is wrong with the bow. Something hit me in the neck” Son btw is 17yo, very experienced and NSW State junior medal winner, shooting compound with hand held trigger release. We find release lying on the ground behind the shooting line, but the bow looks to be in fine condition. String and cables are not damaged, which is not what we expected to find. We thought that a cable would have blown to make that noise. We then find gouge marks on the release, and, on close examination, find that the launcher has a bend in the mounting extension bar, at a point in front of the riser, of about 15 degrees. It did not then take forensic science to determine that said youth had let the release slip from his hand at full draw, which then struck the back of the launcher, creating the substantial bend in the mounting extension, then the release rebounded back and struck him in the neck. Buggered if I know where the arrow went. Needless to say Dad was not impressed with having to buy a new launcher for son. But I will never forget the “Something is wrong with the bow” comment. Brian
