Servicing Arrows

As you may have seen I got some second hand ACC's I had to strip the tips out to get them cut as they were different lengths, I had a camping gas style cooker that had a narrow flame this was ideal for heating the tips, I decided in order to be safe I would use the glass cooker work top (halogen style) it was out of the way of the kids and heat resistant, I placed the stove on the top and a plastic pot of cold water to drop the shafts in to cool after I got the tips out.

The parabolic tips came out easily but a few of the tips were NIBB points which sit longer in the shaft, they were more troublesome, I ended up with my pliers resting on the side of the cooker to hold them steady while i pulled hard, they kept slipping out of the pliers, dam this was hard work, I was not feeling well as it was (bit of a Virus) and the exertion was making me hot, Just a minute It was not the Exertion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the arrows were slipped out of the pliers, I managed to catch not one but two of the electric cooker ring switches which were just starting to glow red, one under the cold water and you guessed it one under the gas cylinder of the stove , I moved them very quickly and after catching my breath continued removing the points.

Close call

Hot-melt glue melts just as easily in boiling water.

Should have put the kettle on.

I use a 3000 degree cigarette lighter in the field, or a cooks torch at home. small and safe.

Did some one say the kettle was on? Make mine a coffee, white with sugar please....

PS. Back on topic, use a pair of nocking point pliers for point removal, the cut outs fit perfectly round points.

I took a point to B&Q to find a pair of pliers that worked.
I got quite a few strange looks, but I now have a pair of pliers that are excellent for the job!

points no problem but fletching spinwings

Sat watching telly one night refletching my aces i carefully cleaned each shaft with acetone and a tisue . Stuck on a spinwing and it just fell off again and again and again Could not figure it out then I realised She who must be obeyed buys the soft balm ones.(ie oily).
Now I stick to using Kitchen roll.
